There are train based problem based on two object, Here we learn the problem on time taken by train pass a pole, a man or light lamp.
Problem on Time taken by Train
First is Train and second object is that which is crossed by the train. This is the basic theory of train which is applied in question to obtain answers here train Methods of example in different form of examples.
In maths exam papers there are two or three question are given from this chapter. This type of problem are given in Quantitative Aptitude which is a very essential paper in banking exam. Under below given some more example for your better practice.
Example #1 – Problems on Time taken by Train
A 480 meter long train running at the speed of 54 km/hr. In what time will it pass a bridge of 120 meter long?
- 28 Second
- 40 Second
- 50 Second
- 70 Second
Show Answer Show How to Solve Open Rough Workspace
Total distance covered = (480 + 120) = 600 meter.
Speed = (54 x 5 / 18) = 15 m/sec
Required time = (600 / 15)sec = 40 sec.
Example #2 – Problems on Time taken by Train
Two trains of 220 meter and 180 meter long are running at the speed of 35 km/hr and 55 km/hr respectively. If they started at the same time and running in the same direction, then in what time the second train would cross the first train?
- 1 Minute 12 Second
- 1 Minute 26 Second
- 2 Minute 38 Second
- 2 Minute 55 Second
Show Answer Show How to Solve Open Rough Workspace
Time = 400 x 18 / (55 – 35) x 5 = 72 sec.
72 sec = 1 min 12 sec.
Example #3 – Problems on Time taken by Train
In what time will a 350 meter long train running at the speed of 90 km/hr cross a pole?
- 7 Seconds
- 12 Seconds
- 14 Seconds
- 18 Seconds
Show Answer Show How to Solve Open Rough Workspace
Speed = 90 x 5 / 18 = 25 m/sec.
Time = 350 / 25 = 14 seconds.
Example #4 – Problems on Time taken by Train
Rajdhani Express train is 160 meter long and running at the speed of 72 km/h. It crosses a platform which is 240 meter long. How much time will it take to cross a platform?
- 20 Seconds
- 25 Seconds
- 32 Seconds
- 48 Seconds
Show Answer Show How to Solve Open Rough Workspace
At First we add the length of train and platform
160 + 240 = 400 meter
Now convert the speed into m/sec
( 72 x 5 ) / 18
= 20 m/sec.
So, the required time to cross the platform is
Time = Distance / Speed
= 400 / 20
= 20 sec.
Note: Here, we add the length of train and platform both because we can’t ignore the length of platform.
Example #5 – Problems on Time taken by Train
A mail train of 250 meters long passes a standing boy in 5 seconds. How long will it take to cross a bridge of 500 meters long?
- 15 m/sec
- 19 m/sec
- 22 m/sec
- 25 m/sec
Show Answer Show How to Solve Open Rough Workspace
Train length = 250 meters.
Speed of the train is:
( 250 / 5 )
= 50 m/sec.
So, time taken to cross the bridge is:
( 500 + 250 / 50 )
= 750 / 50
= 15 m/sec.
Example #6
A super fast train of 150 m long is running at the speed 90 km/hr. Find the time taken by it to pass a boy standing near the railway track.
- 4 Seconds
- 6 Seconds
- 8 Seconds
- 10 Seconds
Show Answer Show How to Solve Open Rough Workspace
First we convert the speed of km/hr to m/sec by multiplying it with 5 / 18.
So, ( 90 x 5 / 18 )
= 25 m/sec.
So, time taken to cross the standing boy is:
Time = Distance / Speed
= ( 150 / 25 )
= 6 sec.
Note: Here width of boy, light lamp, pole, tree, etc are 0 in length.
Example #7
A local train running at a speed of 54 km/hr. It takes 20 seconds to cross a pole. What time will it take to cross a 300 meter long bridge?
- 25 Seconds
- 32 Seconds
- 36 Seconds
- 40 Seconds
Show Answer Show How to Solve Open Rough Workspace
Converting speed to km/hr to m/sec.
54 x 5 / 18
= 15 m/sec.
So, length of the train is:
20 x 15
= 300 meter.
Now, we add length of train and length of bridge, i.e,
300 + 300 = 600 meters.
So, the time will required to cross the bridge is:
Time = Distance / Speed
= 600 / 15
= 40 Seconds.
So, it would cross the bridge in 40 seconds.
