Example 1: The average age of mother and daughter is 55 years. The ratio of there age is 41 : 14. What would be the age of mother ?
Answer : short cut :
55 x 2 = 110
Mother’s age = 110 x 41 / 55 = 82 years
Example 2: P is as much younger to Q as he is older to R. If the sum of the ages of Q and R is 38 years. What is the present age of P ?
Q – R = X——-(1)
P – R = X——-(2)
From 1 and 2 we find
Q – R = 2X
Q + R = 38
So can’t determined
Example 3: Five years before the ratio of ages of Raj and Kumar was 3 : 4, After 8 years the ratio will be 7 : 8, What is the present age of kumar ?
Answer : 3x + 5 + 8 / 4x + 5 + 8 = 7 / 8
4x = 13
x = 13 / 4
Present age of kumar is 13 x 4 / 4 = 13 + 5 = 18 years.
Example 4: Ajay and Bijoy of their present ages of ratio is 4 : 5, 6 years later their ages become 14 : 17. Find the present age of Ajay’s ?
Answer : 4x + 6 / 5x + 6 = 14 / 17
68x + 102 = 70x + 84
2x = 18
x = 9
Example 5: The ratio of present ages of kunal and Sonu is 3 : 5. After 5 years, the ratio of their ages would be 12 : 18. What is kunal’s present age ?
3x + 5 / 5x + 5 = 12 / 18
60x – 60 = 54x + 90
x = 5.
kunal’s present age is = 5 x 3 = 15 years.
Example 6: Lahiri is much younger than partha as he is older than kunal. If the sum of ages of partha and kunal is 65 years. Find the present age of Lahiri ?
Answer : ( Partha – Lahiri ) = X…… (i)
( Lahiri – Kunal ) = X………..(ii)
So, We get from (i) and (ii)
Partha – Kunal = 2X
and Partha + Kunal = = 65
We can say that it can’t be determined.
Example 7: The sum of ages pintu ajay and nikhil is 105. Five years ago the ratio of their ages was 4 : 6 : 8.
What would be the present age of nikhil ?
Answer: 4x + 5 + 6x + 5 + 8x + 5 = 105
18x = 105 – 15
x = 90 / 18 = 5
So, Five years ago nikhil’s age = 5 x 8 = 40 years.
nikhil’s present age is = 40 + 5 = 45 years.
Present age of Ramesh and Suresh are in ratio 5 : 6 respectively . Six years hence , the ratio of their ages will become 6 : 7 respectively . what is Ramesh present age in years ?
Let the present age of Ramesh and Suresh 5x and 6x years respectively.
So , 5x + 6 / 6x + 6 = 6 / 7
7(5x + 6) = 6 (6x + 6)
36x + 36 = 35x + 42
x = 6
Ramesh’s present age is 5x = 5 x 6 = 30 years .
Ramesh present age in years 30 years.
The present ages ratio betwen of arijit and kunal is 4 : 3 and the present ages ratio of between kunal and Rakesh is 6 : 3. Find the Sum of present ages of arijit and kunal.
Answer: Can’t be determined.
Example 10: The sum of ages of Amit, Bijoy, Chandan is 171. Five years ago the ratio of their ages was 6 : 8 : 12.
Find the present age of Bijoy’s.
Answer: 6x + 5 + 8x + 5 + 12x + 5 = 171
26x = 171 – 15
x = 156 / 26 = 6
So, Five years ago Bijoy’s age = 6 x 8 = 48years
Bijoy’s present age is = 48 + 5 = 53 years.
Seven years ago , the age ratio of Sonu and Monu was 6 : 5 . Three years hence , the ratio of their ages will be 11 : 10 . What is Monu’s age at present ?
Let the age of Sonu and Monu 7 years ago be 6x and 5x years respectively .
So, (6x + 7) + 3 /(5x + 7 ) + 3 = 11 / 10
10 ( 6x + 10) = 11 ( 5x + 10 )
5x = 10
x = 2
So, Monu’s present age = ( 5x + 7 ) = 17 years .
Monu’s age at present 17 years,
Rahul would be thrice in 12 years as like sanjay was 12 years ago, Now Rahul is 6 years senior then sanjay, what is the present age of sanjay ?
Answer : Let sanjay present age is x years.
So, Rahul present age is ( x + 6 ).
( x + 6 ) + 12 = 3 ( x – 12 )
12x + 72 = 3x – 36
12x – 3x = – 36 – 72
9x = 108
x = 12.
The present age of sanjay 12 years.
The total age of gangotri, sabir, and bibhas is 96 years. 10 years ago, the ratio of their ages was 2 : 4 : 5. what is the present age of bibhas?
Step 1: Let 10 years before gangotri, sabir, and bibhas ages 3x, 4x, 5x years respectively.
Then ( 2x + 10 ) + ( 4x + 10 ) + ( 5x + 10 ) = 96,
= 11x = 66 = x = 6.
Step 2: Bibhas present age is ( 5x + 10 ) = ( 5 x 6 + 10 ) = 40 years.
The present age of bibhas 40 years.
Ratio of ages of M & N 4 years ago was 3 : 5. If the sum of present ages of M & N is 64 years than, what is the present ages of M & N.
Step 1: M : N = 3 : 5 , According to Question ( P + Q ) = 64 years.
Sum of both ages 4 years ago is ( 64 – 8 ) = 56, ( say that before age that’s why subtract )
Step 2: M = ( 56 / 8 ) x 3 = 7 x 3 = 21 years
and N = (56 / 8 ) x 5 = 5 x 7 = 35 years,
Step 3: present age of M = ( 21 + 4 ) = 25 years
and present age of N = ( 35 + 4 ) = 39 years.
The present ages of M & N 25 years, 39 years.
Ratio of ages of P & Q 4 years ago was 3 : 5. If the sum of present ages of P & Q is 64 years than, What is the present ages of P & Q.
Let the ages is P & Q 4 years ago are 3x and 5x.
( 3x + 4 )+( 5x + 4 ) = 64 years,
= 8x + 8 = 64, = 8x = 56, x = 7. ( we get the value of x ).
So the age of P , 4 years ago = 7 x 3 = 21 years,
and the age of Q, 4 years ago = 7 x 5 = 35 years.
Now the present age of P is = ( 21 + 4 ) = 25 years,
and present age of Q is = ( 35 + 4) = 39 years.
The present ages of P & Q 25 years, 39 years.
At present , the ratio between the ages of Anil and Anu is 4 : 3 . After 4 years , Anil’s age will be 24 years . what is the age of Anu at present ?
Let the present age of Anil and Anu is 4x years and 3x years respectively.
So , After 4 years Anil’s age ,will be 24 ,
4x + 4 = 24
4x = 20
x = 5
So , Anu present age is 3x = 3 x 5 = 15 years .
The age of Anu at present is 15 years.
