In maths exam papers there are two or three question are given from this chapter. This type of problem are given in Quantitative Aptitude which is a very essential paper in banking exam. Under below given some more example for your better practice.

Basic formulas

  • Distance = Speed x Time
  • Speed = Distance / Time
  • Time = Distance / Speed

Example #1

A boy without any stoppage driving on a road at an average speed of 80 km/hr. With stoppage he covers the same distance at an average speed of 60 km/hr. How many minutes per hour does the boy stopped?

Answer: Option (B)
How to Solve
Let, the total distance covered by the boy on road is X km.
Time taken to complete at a speed of 80 km/hr = X / 80 hours.
Time takeen to complete at a speed of 60 km/hr = X / 60 hours.

So, he stop to rest
(X / 80) – (X / 60)
or, 20X / 60 x 80
therefore, X / 240 hours.

So, he rest per hour
(X / 240) / (x / 60)
or, (X / 240) x (60 / X)
or, 1 / 4 hours.
therefore, 15 minutes.

Shortcut Tricks
Time of rest per hour = ( Difference of speed / Speed without stoppage )
( 80 – 60 ) / 80
= 1 / 4
= 15 minutes.

Answer: Option (A)
How to Solve
Distance = Speed x Time

So, time given = 2 hr 45 min
= 2 x 60 min + 45 min
= 165 minutes OR, 165 / 60 = 11 / 4 hr.

Distance = 4 x 11 / 4
= 11 km.

So, time required to cover the distance at a speed of 16.5 km/hr is
Time = Distance / Speed
or, 11 / 16.5
or, 0.66 hour.
then, 0.66 x 60 minutes
therefore, 40 Minutes.

Example #3

A train cover a distance of 16 km in 10 minutes. If it’s speed is decreased by 6 km/hr, then what will be the time taken by it to cover the same distance?

  1. 23/2 Minutes
  2. 29/2 Minutes
  3. 32/3 Minutes
  4. 35/3 Minutes

Answer: Option (C)
How to Solve
Speed = (16 x 60 / 10)
= 96 km/hr.

So, after decreasing speed, the new speed is
(96 – 6)
= 90 km/hr.

So, the time taken by the train will be
16 x 60 / 90
= 32/3 minutes.
