You can get a good score only if you get a good score in math section. And, you can get good score only by practicing more and more. All you need to do is to do math problems correctly within time, and you can do this only by using shortcut tricks. And, again it does not mean that you can’t do maths without using shortcut tricks. So, you may have that potential that you may do maths within time without using any shortcut tricks.

But, so many people can’t do this. So, here we prepared time and work shortcut tricks for those people. And, here in this page we try to put all types of shortcut tricks on Time and Work. Time and Work : Example #2

P complete a work in 12 days and Q complete the same work in 16 days. So, find the time required to complete the same work if they both work together.

  1. 33 / 5 Days
  2. 38 / 5 Days
  3. 38 / 7 Days
  4. 48 / 7 Days

Answer: Option (D)
How to Solve
Work done by P in 1 day is 1 / 12.
And, work done by Q in 1 day is 1 / 16.

Work done by ( P + Q ) together in 1 day is-
(1 / 12) + (1 / 16)
= 7 / 48.

Example #8

20 labour can do piece of work in 30 days. So, how many days will required for 15 labour to complete double the work?

  1. 60 Days
  2. 69 Days
  3. 75 Days
  4. 80 Days

Show Answer Show How to Solve Open Rough Workspace

Answer: Option (D)
How to Solve
20 labour can do a piece of work in 30 days.
Now we need to find the double of the work by 15 labour.

We use
( Labour X Working days ) = ( Labour X Working days )
20 x 30 = 15 x ?
600 = 15 x ?
? = 600 / 15
? = 40/

Now we need to double the working days, i.e, 40 x 2 = 80 days.

Example #9

Subir and Kabir can do a piece of work in 20 days and 12 days respectively. Subir started the work alone and then after 4 days Kabir joined him till the completion of the work. So, how long did the work last?

  1. 8 Days
  2. 10 Days
  3. 12 Days
  4. 20 Days

Show Answer Show How to Solve Open Rough Workspace

Answer: Option (B)
How to Solve
In 4 days Subir work done = 1 x 4 / 20 = 1 / 5.
Remaining work is = ( 1 – 1 / 5 ) = 4 / 5.

Now Subir and Kabir together work done by 1 day is = ( 1 / 20 + 1 / 12 ) = 2 / 15.

Work will be done by Subir and Kabir = ( 15 / 2 x 4 / 5 ) = 6 days.

Example #10

Rajib and Rajesh together can complete a piece of work in 4 days. If Rajib alone can complete the same work in 12 days. So, in how many days can Rajesh alone complete that work?

  1. 3 Days

  3. 6 Days
  4. 8 Days

Show Answer Show How to Solve Open Rough Workspace

Answer: Option (C)
How to Solve
Rajib and Rajesh can do piece of work 4 days, then
First we find required 1 day time and work,
( Rajib + Rajesh ) can do piece of work in 1 days = 1 / 4.

Rajib 1 day’s work = 1 / 12.
Same work Rajesh can do in 1 day’s = ( 1 / 4 – 1 / 12 ) = 1 / 6.

      if Subir can do piece of work in n days, then subir 1 day’s work 1 / n.
      similarly subir and kabir work done by 1 days ( 1 / 20 + 1 / 12 ) = 2 / 15.

      15 / 2 comes because if subir 1 days work = 1 / n, then subir finish work in n days .
      thats why it 15 / 2 both person work days

        • Samarth Singh says:

          Sunil, in that case we use the formula…

          1 = n(1/a+1/b) + x(1/a)

          We will try to make sure n(1/a+1/b) is 1 itself…
          If not, then we add x(1/a) to the equation as remainder work which person A does alone at last day.

          Solution will be (2n+x) days.

          For example, if A takes 24 days, and B takes 12 days to complete a work, and they do alternate days, we will use (1/24 + 1/12) to arrive at 1/8.

          1= n (1/8) + x (1/24)

          We can see that if we make n as 8, we can maximise it and make x zero.

          1= 8(1/8) + 0(1/24)
          =8(1/8)

          So, 2n+x = 2×8 + 0 = 16 days is answer, assuming A started the work first.

    These tricks are very much helpful for me it consumes less time and so, they are very much beneficial if they are applied in any competitive exam.

  2. SURAJ KUMAR GUPTA says:

    very helpful tricks sir i m greatly thankful to you will you send some important tricks in my mail

    5 men can move a weight of 120 kg through distance of 5m in 10 mins.How much time will be needed by 10 men to move a weight 0f 240 kg through a distance of 15 m

  4. Maheswar badara says:

    A alone can complete a work in 16 days and B alone in 12 days.Starting with A,they work on alternate days.The total work will be completed in :

    • niraj says:

      let total work=lcm of16,12=48 units
      one day work of a=48/16=3 units
      one day work of b=48/12=4 units
      total units of work=3+4=7
      to do 48 units of work days required=48*2/7=13.7 aprox 14 days

  5. Maheswar badara says:

    A B nd C can do a piece of work in 20 30 and 60 days respectively.In how many days can A do the work if he is assisted by B and C on every 3rd day?

  6. Rsaraf says:

    A = one work in 10 days
    B – same work in 15 days
    they work together for 5 days and then C finishes rest of the work in 2 days. In total they have been paid 1500 RS.

    What would be the daily wasage of B and C

  7. simranjeet singh says:

    50 men can complete the work in 100 days.In how many days the work will be completed if 10 men joined after every 10 day.
    Sir plz solve and explain this question.

    • Samarth Singh says:

      1/20-1/60 =

      3/60 – 1/60 = 2/60
      =1/30

      This is the contribution, not time. To get time, we reverse its fraction.
      1/30 is made 30/1 = 30 minutes

  8. S.MANIKANDAN says:

    IN EXAMPLE 11-) please explain sir,
    How many more women need the complete work in 5 days ?
    75-25=50
    How is it possible sir, more means plus symbol then we add only 75+25=100.
    please clear this doubt

    Can you help to solve a word problem? the word problem is: A and B together complete a piece of work in 20 days. The same work is completed by B and C and C and A in 15 and 12 days respectively. how long will it take for them to complete the work together? and how long will each take to complete the same work?

  10. Pooja says:

    A does a work in 90 days, B in 40 days and C in 12
    days. They work one after another for a day each, starting with
    A followed by B and then by C. If the total wages
    received are Rs 360 and A, B, C share them in the ratio
    of the work done, find their respective individual wages

  11. k k subramanian says:

    A contractor undertook to complete a work in 120 days. He employed 200 men. In 72 days only half of the work was done.How many more men should be employed to complete the work in time ?

    2 men and 3 boys can do a piece of work in 10 days while 3 men and 2 boys can do the same work in 8 days, in how many days can 2 men and 1 boy do the work?

    • Snigdha dey says:

      (2M +3B)10=(3M+2B)8.
      20M+30B=24M+16B
      30B-16B=24M-20M
      14B=4M
      7B=2M

      2M+3B=10Days
      7B+3B=10 days
      10B=10days
      2M+1B=8B
      8B= 10*10/8= 12.5 days

    • Admin says:

      25 women finish that work in 15 days.
      And we solve that 75 women needed to finish the work in 5 days.

      But, if you notice the question carefully, the question ask for how many more women needed to finish the work. Means, we have 25 women and we need 50 more women for total 75 women.
      That’s why we need to subtract 25 from 75.

  13. Khem says:

    10 women can complete the work in 8days 10 children can do that work in 12days than 6 women and 3 children how much day take for doing that work.
