Problem on time taken by train

Problem on time taken by train
The problem on trains are important chapter for easily get the marks in competitive exam papers.you just remember the way of train cross the object and speed ,time and distance. There are train based problem based on two object,Here we learn the problem on time taken by train pass a pole ,a man or light lamp. First is Train and second object is that which is crossed by the train.

Problem on time taken by train
Example1: A super fast train 150m long is running at the speed 90 Km / hr. Find the time taken by it to pass a boy standing  near the railway track.

Answer: First we convert the speed of supar fast train Km / hr to m / sec multiplying by 5 / 18 . So, ( 90 x 5 / 18 ) m / sec = 25 m / sec. so speed of train is 25 m / sec.
The super fast train passing a standing boy near the railway track distance  is 150 m.
Formula: T = Time ,D = Distance and S = Speed of train.
So, The time taken to cross the standing boy is T = D / S = ( 150 / 25 ) sec = 60 sec.

Note: Here width of boy,  light lamp, pole, tree etc are ignorable in length.

Example2: A Rajdhani Express train 160m long and running at speed  72 Km / h. It crosses a platform  which is 240 m long .How much time will it cross a platform .

Answer: At First we add the length of train and platform is 160m + 240m = 400m, and convert the speed into m / sec that is ( 72 x 5 ) / 18 = 20 m / sec. Required time to cross a platform is T = D / S , = 400 / 20 = 20 sec.

Note: Here is we add the length of train and platform both because we can't ignore the length of platform.
