- 2500
- 2272
- 2043

First year decreases by 4% = 2500 x 96 /100 = 2400.
Second year increases by 3% = 2400 x 103 / 100 = 2472.
2500 x 96 x 103 / 100 x 100
= 2472.
Example #2 – Percentage calculation on population
The population of a city is 175000. In the first year it decreases by 6% and in the second year it increases by 8%. What would be the population of the city at present?
- 16110
- 16890
- 175000
- 177660

Population in that town on 2018 will be
600000 x 120 x 120 x 120 / 100 x 100 x 100
= 1036800.
Example #4 – Percentage calculation on population
In a town, the present population is 52500. If it is decreased by 20% per year, then what would be the population of the town after 2 years?
- 30550
- 33600
- 35750
- 39260
Show Answer Show How to Solve Show Shortcut Tricks Open Rough Workspace
We know, Population after n year = P(1 – R/100)n
So, Here P = 52500
R = 20% ( decreased )
n = 2 years.
Population after 2 years
52500 x (1 – 20/100)2
or, 52500 x (4/5)2
or, 52500 x 0.64
therefore, 33600
= 52500 x 80/100 x 80/100
= 33600.
Example #5 – Percentage calculation on population
The population of a city was 24000 two years ago. Population decreases every year at the rate of 5%. Find the present population of the city.
- 19490
- 21000
- 21660
- 22750
Show Answer Show How to Solve Open Rough Workspace
Present population of that city is
24000 x ( 1 – 5% )2
or, 24000 x ( 1 – 5 / 100 )2
or, 24000 x ( 19 / 20 x 19 / 20 )
therefore, 21660.
Example #6 – Percentage calculation on population
The population in Pune city was 150000 three years ago. If it increased by 4%, 5% and 6% respectively in the last three years. Find the present population of the Pune city?

- 183344
- 193543
- 203457
Show Answer Show How to Solve Open Rough Workspace
Here population increased by continuous three years respectively, So Present population is the city is
= 150000 x (1 + 4 / 100 ) x ( 1 + 5 / 100 ) x ( 1 + 6 / 100 )
= 150000 x 104 / 100 x 105 / 100 x 106 / 100
So, 150000 x 52 x 21 x 106 / 50 x 20 x 100
= 173628.
Example #7 – Percentage calculation on population
The population of a town increased by annually 6%. If it’s population in 2016 is 1356800. Then, what would be it’s population in 2017?

Male Female
+10 +20
+25
5 15
Male population before increment
= 6000 x 5 / 20
= 1500

Please solve my this question:-
A. The population of a city increases 15% annually. If the present population is 20,700 , find the population an year ago..
180000
15 percent means 3/20
if in one year it increases from 20 to 23 the present pop. is given as 20700
equate this given population with our present ratio that is 23=20700
1= 20700/23= 900
so,pop. one year ago is= 20*900
=18000
