Before knowing VBODMAS Rule, you need to know that, Math section in a competitive exams are the most important part of the exam. It doesn’t mean that other topics are not so important. But if you need a good score in exam then you have to score good in maths. Only practice and practice can give you a good score. You should do your math problems within time with correctness, and you can do this only by using shortcut tricks. Again it does not mean that you can’t do maths without using shortcut tricks. You may do math problems within time without using any shortcut tricks. You may have that potential.

What is VBODMAS Rule ?

What does V BODMAS stands for?( Vinculum-Bracket-Of-Division-Multiplication-Addition-Subtraction )We all learn VBODMAS rule at our school age, but look at the BODMAS spelling here. It starts with a letter ‘V’.

Anything we learn in our school days was basics and that is well enough for passing our school exams. Now the time has come to learn for our competitive exams. For this we need our basics but also we have to learn something new. That’s where shortcut tricks are comes into action. Here in this topic we will discuss each every letter of VBODMAS rule.

  • V means Vinculum or Bar.. (The bar you see on top of the values X )
  • B means Bracket – () {} [ ]
  • O means Of
  • D means Division [/]
  • M means Multiplication [x]
  • A means Addition [+]
  • S means Subtraction [-]

When you solve any mathematical equation, remember the VBODMAS rule and follow it religiously.
How do we remember?

  • B-Brackets first Then
  • O-Orders (i e Powers and Square Roots, etc.)Then
  • D M –Division and Multiplication (left-to-right)Then
  • AS-Addition and Subtraction (left-to-right).

 

24/4 of 3 + [8×6+2] = ?

The above order of VBODMAS , we can solve

24 / 4 of 3 + 50 = ?
6 x 3 + 50 = ?
18 + 50 = ?
? = 68

We consider / is subtraction symbol and of symbol as addition.

        for bar or line bracket, You need to consider only numbers written below. Also do not consider the sign whether negative or positive, if it is not under line bracket. Always consider whatever written below it.

      Shouldn’t this be right ->
      24/4 of 3 + 50 be solved as ->
      = 24/12 + 50
      = 2+50
      =52

      Instead of ->
      24/4 of 3+50 as ->
      =6*3+50
      =18+50
      =68

      ??

      Which one is right?
