Example 1: A 270 meters long train passes a bridge thrice its length in 30 seconds. find the speed of the train in kms/hr.
Answer : 270 x 3 + 270 / 30 = 1080 / 30

36 x 18 / 5 = 129.6 km/hr

 

 

Example 2: A 720 meters long train cross a man standing in 60 seconds. What would be the speed of the train ?
Answer :S = D /T
720 / 60 = 12 m/sec.

 

 

Example 3:
A supar fast train 140m long crossing a long tunnel of 450m in 20 sec. What would be the speed of train ?
Answer : Speed = distance 1 + distance 2 / Time
140 + 450 = 590 / 20 = 29.5 m/s.

 

 

Example 4: A local train 150 m long passes a boy, and running at 3 km/hr in the same direction, in 10 seconds.
What would be the speed of the train ?
Answer: Speed of the train relative to man =150 / 10 m/sec = 15 m/sec
Convert meters to km=15 x 18 / 5 = 54 km/hr.
Let the speed of the train be x km/hr
x – 3 = 54
x = 57 km/hr.

 

 

Example 5:
An Spice jet covers a certain distance at a speed of 275 kmph in 5 hours. To cover the same distance in 7 / 3 hours, So it travel at a speed of:
Answer :
distance at a speed of 275 kmph,
Distance = ( 275 x 5 ) = 1375 km,
we know formula, Speed = Distance / Time
Speed =1375 x 3 / 7 = 4125 / 7 = 589.2 km / hr.
it travel at a speed of 589.2 km / hr.

 

 

Example 6:
A bus passes a distance of 750 km. in 15 hours. What would be speed of the bus ?
Answer : Speed = Distance / Time
Speed = 725 / 15 = 50 km./hrs.

 

 

Example 7:
A 150 m long train takes 30 seconds to cross a man standing on a platform, What would be the speed the of train ?
Answer :
We know the formula Speed = Distance / Time
So, Distance = 150 m , Time = 30 Seconds
Speed = ( 150 / 30 ) m / sec = 5 m / sec.
speed of the train is 5 m / sec.

 

 

Example 8: A 320 meter long mail train whose average speed of 90 Km/hr passes a platform in 40 seconds.
A boy passes the same platform in 5 minutes, Find the speed of boy in meter/sec.
Answer :
At first we convert Km/ht to M/sec = 90 x 5 / 18 = 25m/sec.
25 = 320 + x / 40
x = 1000 – 320
x = 680.

5 minute = 5 x 60 = 300 seconds.
So, Speed of boy = 680 / 300 = 2.27 m/sec.

 

 

Example 9:
A slow Local train whose length is 150 meter long and a bridge length is 550 meter to cross the bridge by local train in 50 sec, What is the speed of train to crossing a bridge ?
Answer:
At first we add the length of both train and bridge that is 150 + 550 = 700 meter, and we know the formula of speed = Distance / Time,
So 700 / 50 = 14 meter / sec.

 

 

Example 10:
A train 165 meters long crosses a electric post in 5 seconds. The speed of the trains in km /hr is:
Answer :
We know the formula Speed = Distance / Time
So, Distance = 165 m, Time = 5 Seconds
Speed = ( 165 / 5 ) m / sec = 33 m / sec.
Convert m / sec into km / hr ( 18 / 5) km /hr
33 x 18 / 5 = 594 / 5 = 118.8 km / hr
speed of the train is 118.8 km / hr.

 

 

Example 11:
A boy is standing on a railway bridge and which is 150 m long. He find that a train passes the bridge in 40 seconds but the train himself in 10 sec, Find the length of the train and speed.
Answer:
First we find the length of train, the we assume that length of train be L meters.
than, L / 10 = L + 150 / 40 = 40 L = 10L + 1500,
so, L = 50 meter. and now speed of train is D / T = 50 / 10 = 5 m / sec. and now convert it into 5 x 18 / 5 = 18 Km / hr.
So speed of train is 18 Km / hr.
